Ken Higdon Memorial Fund

On Jan. 4, 2017, Kenneth Brian Higdon was taken suddenly following a
routine surgery. He was 53 years old.  Ken was a generous man who carried himself with passion and integrity in his public and private lives.

A native of Tacoma, WA, Ken amassed a successful 32-year career in professional baseball, including 16 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.  He began his career in 1978 as a clubhouse attendant with a Minor League Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.  In 1987, he became the Equipment Manager for the Los Angeles Angels’ minor league affiliate in Mesa, AZ, before ascending to the major leagues in 1994.  Ken served as the Clubhouse and Equipment Manager for the Angels from 1994 until his retirement in 2009.  Those teams appeared in the postseason six times, including the magical 2002 World Series Championship season.

Throughout his life, Ken was an ambassador for baseball to kids getting started in the game. A diligent worker and fiercely loyal friend, he continuously gave his time and resources to help organizations that supported the sport.  Ken made many dear friends along the way and told remarkable stories spanning decades of baseball lore.

Ken retired to Sandpoint, Idaho with his loving wife Sabrina and their dog Mozey, where they built their dream house on Lake Pend Oreille.  He enjoyed life in his new office (on the dock or on his pontoon boat), and was quick to make friends in this close community.

Ken is also survived by his parents Robert & Marlene Higdon, brothers Robert Jr., Dennis (wife Joan), William (wife Laura), and many nieces and nephews. His ashes will be scattered over his favorite places. This memorial fund has been set up so we can continue Ken’s legacy by helping baseball grow through field refurbishments and player sponsorships in the town he loved.

Ken will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
