Sandpoint Little League

Double A

Double A (AA) is designed for payers aged 7-9.  This level is intended to bridge the gap between divisions previously known as Rookies and Minors, providing younger players a more appropriate atmosphere in which to develop. Coaches focus on the reinforcement of fundamentals including catching, proper throwing motion, base running and a strong emphasis on hitting by developing proper swing mechanics. Players will also learn basic pitching skills and fundamentals at this level. An emphasis will be placed on learning the rules of baseball and strategies of the game. Volunteer parent umpires will be used and a 5 run rule per inning will apply.

Ages

Most, if not all AA players, will be 7-9 years old on April 30 (League age). There is the flexibility to allow a player to "play up" or "play down" a year at this level, depending on the player's experience and ability. A 7-year old may be eligible to participate with 2 years of prior experience. Please contact the league if you wish to have your child play outside of his or her normal age bracket.

Season

Double A practice begins in mid-April with games starting by the end of April (weather permitting). SLL makes every effort to encourage coaches to have two weeks of practice, with two practices per week, before the season begins.  When games start, the individual coach may elect to have at least one practice per week in addition to the two games per week.  The season ends the last week of school in mid-June.

Teams

SLL will do their best to keep kids on teams as they relate to geographic areas (ie: Sagle, Sandpoint, Colburn).  Requests for specific Coaches, siblings and friends will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. SLL tries to cap teams at 10 to 11 players per team so kids can have as much playing time as possible.

Location

Practices may be at area schools.  Games are played at the Seventh Day Adventist field, across the street from Travers Park.

Games

Games are no longer than one hour and forty-five minutes OR six innings, whichever is first.  Games are played in the afternoon with the first set at 4:00 pm and the second game at 6:00 pm.  Games are played Monday through Friday beginning at the end of April.

Equipment

Sandpoint Little League exclusive Jersey (T-shirt) and Major League Baseball cap are provided to players by the league.  SLL also provides coaches with helmets, bats and catching equipment.  Cleats and baseball pants are encouraged but not required.  Players need to have a baseball mitt.
