Sandpoint Little League

Triple A

AAA is designed for players 8-11, the AAA Baseball (Minors, prior to 2012) is the start of competitive baseball in our league.  This is still considered an instructional league with an emphasis on enhancing each player’s abilities and fundamentals of baseball in a competitive environment.  Score keeping and standings are kept at this level with regular season awards presented at the championship game.  Kids pitch at this level with pitch counts strictly adhered to.  One home plate umpire is used at this level.  Girls in this age group are encouraged to join our Little League Softball program.

Ages

Most, if not all AAA players, will be 8-11 years old on April 30 (League age).  There is the flexibility to allow a player to "play up" or "play down" a year at this level, depending on the player's experience and ability.  All players wishing to play at this level are required to attend tryouts.  Please contact the league if you wish to have your child play outside of his or her normal age bracket.  The League will make a final decision regarding such a request.

Teams

Mandatory try-outs at this level ensure teams have an even amount of talent and pitchers.  Players are selected to individual teams based on this tryout.  Parent requests for specific coaches, or to be on specific teams, will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed in order to ensure team equality and competitiveness.

Season

AAA practice begins the week after Spring Break with games starting by the end of April (weather permitting).  Practices are 2-3 times per week pre-season with practices continuing during the game season.  Coaches set practice frequency depending on field availability and scheduling.  We ask players and families to be prepared to commit to three days of practice/games per week.

Location

Practices may be at area schools.  Home games are played at Pine St. field near Sandpoint City Hall.  In addition to games between our local teams, we will be traveling to other communities (i.e. Priest River, Bonners Ferry, Spirit Lake) for 2-3 games, as well as hosting games against them in Sandpoint.

Games

Games are no longer than one hour and forty-five minutes OR six innings, whichever is first.  Games are played in the afternoon with the first set at 4:00 pm and the second set at 6:00 pm.  Games are played Monday through Friday and occasionally Saturday, beginning mid-April. Generally, there are two games per week; however, some weeks there may be more.

Equipment

Major League Baseball (MLB) Jersey (T-shirt) and MLB baseball cap are provided to players by the league.

All-Stars

A 9-10-year-old All-Star team is fielded from players at this level.  The All-Star team is formed in mid-June and travels to several tournaments in North Idaho.
