Sandpoint Little League

Softball Divisions

Softball is growing in Sandpoint!  We now have a Rookies division for girls age 6-8.  Girls under 6 years are encouraged to join our T-Ball Baseball division.  Note that softball's league age is considered to be the age the player attained in the previous calendar year.

At all levels, it is the goal of Sandpoint Little League to provide a safe, fun and enjoyable environment for our children to play and learn the game of softball.  With that being our overriding priority, following are the divisions of Fastpitch Softball supported by our Little League organization:

Tee Ball

Girls of softball league age 4 or 5 who would like to join a team are encouraged to play Tee Ball.  Read more

Rookies Softball

New in 2015, Rookies Softball is designed for players league age 6-8.  At this level, coaches will pitch to their own players.  If the batter does not get a hit in five pitches, the batter will hit off a batting tee.  Coaches are required to rotate players through defensive positions.  Coaches begin focusing on defensive fundamentals as this division recognizes a three-out inning.  No umpires and no score keeping with exception of a five-run rule per inning. Read more

Minors Softball

Minors Softball is an instructional division for league ages 8-10 with an emphasis on fundamentals and enhancing each player’s abilities.  Coaches focus on the reinforcement of fundamentals including catching, proper throwing motion, base running, and developing proper swing mechanics.  Through practice and play, players learn rules and strategies of the game.  Players also have an opportunity to learn basic pitching skills at this level, and while pitching may be a combination of kid- and coach- pitch at the beginning of the year, by the end of our season it will be up to the girls to strike each other out! Read more

Majors Softball

Majors Softball is designed for girls league age 10-12.  As with baseball, this is the age at which we start playing competitively.  That said, Majors is still considered an instructional league with an emphasis on fundamentals and enhancing each player’s abilities in a competitive environment.  Kids pitch at this level with inning counts strictly adhered to.  One home plate umpire is used at this level. Read more
